Web design style: collage

General description
In the collage style of web design, images of real-life objects are assembled to form a scene. The navigation and the flow of information is incorporated into the scene.
Important features
- images of real-life objects
- an underlying metaphor such as a bulletin board or desk
When it was fashionable
‘Collage’ style web design is a current trend.
What inspires the style
The style is inspired by the real world and real-life objects, with designers drawing inspiration from their (or their client’s) personal environment. For example, a designer might create a portfolio based around the metaphor of their work desk or file drawer.
How the style has changed over time
The ‘collage’ style first made its presence felt in the mid 2000s. Since then there have been few outward changes to the style.
How technology has caused the style to change
This style has emerged as the web has become faster and large background images are in widespread use. Flash and Javascript also play a major role in this style.
