Web design style: scrapbook

General description
Scrapbook-style web design combines elements of grunge and hand-drawn with real-life textures and light, friendly colours. It is inspired by and similar in appearance to real life scrapbooks. The style conveys an impression of friendliness and a personal touch, making it popular for websites geared towards women. It is also used for craft-related websites
Important features
- uses images of real-life scrapbooking supplies
- light, friendly colour scheme
- heavy use of paper and fabric textures
- ‘layered’ look, with several layers of textures underneath the content
When it was fashionable
The style was identified as an emerging trend in 2008, but it has been in use since the middle of the 00s. It is popular for craft/design related websites as well as websites oriented towards families and women.
What inspires the style
The style is inspired by conventional scrapbooking, where images and memorabilia are presented on decorated pages. Designers use random small objects to create a unified whole.
How the style has changed over time
The style has not really changed over time.
How technology has caused the style to change
Technology has not had much of an effect on this style.
